Not so far from the town of Siem Reap is the Tonle Sap lake (Great Lake). The lake is a tourist attraction in itself. Here, you can see the floating villages best seen during the rainy season when water level is high. The Tonle Sap is the largest feature in Cambodia acting as a natural resource. They say that your trip to Tonle Sap is not complete without a visit to the flooded forests nearby and the bird sanctuaries.
Marvels of Phnom Penh
If you land at the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, you will immediately feel at home. It is full of attractions, among them the National Museum of Arts where you will find Cambodian history dating back to the 4th century! At the city center lies the independence monument and Phnom Penh central market where you can explore the architectural marvels. 15 kilometers north of Phnom Penh is the Mekong Island (Koh Dach) where you can retreat to escape the busy city.
Southern Cambodia is the place to be if you love beaches and water in general. Thailand borders Cambodia to the south presenting an opportunity to finish the tour there. The famous Kampot town in Sihanoukville is good place to start with a visit to the Bokor National park located in the Bokor mountains. The coastal area of Sihanoukville has natural beaches uninterrupted by industrial activities. A visit to Sihanoukville is not complete without a visit to the bamboo island off Sihanoukville's coast. The island has a few inhabitants and provides a serene nature.
