Sihanoukville is a province of Cambodia located on the Gulf of Thailand. It is a port city situated 185 kilometers southwest of the Cambodia capital, Phnom Penh. Sihanoukville harbors many beaches and tropical islands which have made it a major tourist attraction site. These beaches include Victory Beach, Independence Beach, Ochheuteal Beach, and Otres Beach among many others. Sihanoukville is situated at 10 degrees north latitude which gives it a tropical marine type of climate hence a warm and humid atmosphere. This type of climate makes Sihanoukville ideal for tourists throughout the year.
Sihanoukville attracts a lot of tourists due to its relaxed beach atmosphere. The weather is very friendly and it's characterized by an average temperature ranging from around 16 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius.
The cool season which ranges from temperatures of 20 degree Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius occurs in the months of November, December, January, February and March. The coolest months are January and December. Many consider the period between November and February as the best time to visit Sihanoukville due to their cooler temperatures and blue skies. This is normally the peak season for holiday makers since days do not experience extreme heat and nights get quite cool. Mid-day weather is nice and warm and the mid-nights bring a pleasant cool.
The hot season where temperature ranges from 26 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius is experienced in the months of March, April and May. The climate in this season is hot and dry. High temperatures are experienced with little or no rain. During this time, there are sunny skies, rainless days and nice breezes. The month of April is the hottest month in this period. Temperatures can rise up to 36 degrees Celsius and the sun's intensity and relative humidity can make you sweat. Luckily, there are restaurants wherever you go and a cold beer awaiting. In addition, the abundant sea serves the purpose of cooling you down.
The rainy weather begins in the month of May till October. In this season temperatures are between 24 to 34 degrees Celsius with humidity up to 90%. Sihanoukville experiences monsoon rains but they rarely last the entire day. Most of the day has sunlight and rains mostly fall in the afternoons or evenings. Therefore, if you are visiting Sihanoukville during this season, it would be wise to take an umbrella with you. The beach weather starts at the end of the rains in November. This weather is characterized by warm, dry and breezy climate which continues up to the month of January. The temperatures during the day rove around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius while nights could be chilly at around 20 degrees Celsius.
Some local outfitters claim that the best scuba weather occurs from December to June. This is characterized by clearer (but cool) waters than the rest of the year. The climate in Sihanoukville begins to warm up in January and gets hotter till July. Cool mango showers blow in from the north in the month of February. Tourists need not worry of tropical disasters such as earth quakes or erupting volcanoes since the country is not affected directly. In a few years to come, Sihanoukville will be one of the leading tourist attraction sites in the world since the government has undertaken major tasks to develop this area for this purpose.
